Ian A. Hawkins - Hobby Artist: Mixed Media Collage and Assemblage
Ian A. Hawkins was trained at the National Art School East Sydney, NSW.
As well as the fundamentals of 'Art', he studied Interior and Industial Design, Stage and Costume Design and Art History.
For many years he designed sets and costumes for many productions of Musical Theatre and Drama for Pro/Am - as well as Professional productions with Community Theatre groups in NSW.
He began creating distinctly unique shadow boxes and assemblages and now specialises in MIXED/MULTI MEDIA COLLAGE & ASSEMBLAGE:Richly embellished and inspired by Byzantine, Renaissance, Medieval and Tudor Courts, Orthodox imagery; reliquaries, altar pieces, icons and stained glass. As a retired Visual Merchandiser and Fashion Stylist, both in Sydney and in London, he garnered much experience in the Arts and of the presentation of high fashion and gallery art shows, exhibitions, window displays and cat-walk parades.
He works with such diverse materials as china & glass fragments, ephemera, recyled printed images, discarded and found objects; jewellry, buttons, gold and silver leaf, shells and carapaces: Recyled junk and flotsam and jetsam also have a place in his studio, much to the chagrin of his ever patient wife!
Inspired by past epochs and eras, his works always have a contemporary flair - and a very obvious - theatrical twist.
He has had four exhibitions to date in Hobart's Salamanca Arts Centre and has taken part in art shows here in Melbourne; He is a member of the Box Hill Art Group. |
